Flamekin are a race of intense, passionate elementals made of mutable stone and flame. They are daredevils and adventurers, with strong, intense passions that drive them to wander the world. The flame of their bodies burns magically cool, but they can choose to burn hot at will. This makes them deadly enemies in battle.
Flamekin are semi-nomadic, born out of a desire to explore new lands and experience life to the fullest.
Flamekin are a much wiser race than one might expect, being adherents of the Path of Flame, a process of physical and spiritual self-discovery that revolves around the fires that constantly burn upon their bodies. Each stage along the paths marked by a different color of fire, and new stages are reached by exploring the world, understanding one's inner self, and deep meditation. The first stage, red flame, is tied to a flamekin's physical senses, usually attained through travel and new experiences. The yellow flame stage comes with intense emotion. The white flame stage involves spiritual experience and larger emotional growth. Only soulstokes usually get to this difficult stage. No one is really sure what the fourth stage, the blue flame stage, entails. Those who come close find themselves consumed by their own inner fires. One who reaches this stage and survives would become the stuff of legend.
Flamekin are not to be confused with the Boros Flame-Kin, who are created via magic, made to wear armor and serve as fellow soldiers in the Boros Legion.
Their flame is seen as a threat by the elves of Lorwyn, and conflicts occasionally occur between the two races.
When provoked, a flamekin's inner fire burns far hotter than any giant's forge.
